Here are 4 locations in Cagliari for your pre-wedding photos

Saline di Molentargius

One of the 4 locations in Cagliari you may not know for your pre-wedding photos is the Saline di Molentargius salt pans, whose name comes from the Sardinian word molenti , meaning the Sardinian donkey, which was used to carry salt on carts. Literally, Molentargius therefore means "pond owned by the donkey drivers". The park is a quarter of an hour's drive from the centre and a ten-minute walk from Poetto beach. Salt extraction here seems to date back some 3,000 years; today the site is no longer in use, and what remains is a surreal landscape with unexpected views and colours. We are in the Molentargius Nature Park, home to countless flamingos. The Sella del Diavolo headland is always clearly visible.

Sant'Elia Lighthouse

The second of the 4 locations in Cagliari you may not know for your pre-wedding photos lies a few kilometres south of the centre: an evocative spot surrounded by the green of the Mediterranean scrub. It overlooks the Bay of Calamosca and is one of the oldest lighthouses in Cagliari. Built in 1850 by the Royal Civil Engineering Office, it was electrified in 1937 to make the lighthouse keepers' work easier. Standing 21 metres tall, it has a range of 21 nautical miles and emits two white flashes every ten seconds. Capo Sant'Elia is steeped in history: the ancient Romans had already chosen the site for civil buildings such as cisterns and domus. Just walking along the path you enter an almost surreal dimension; silence reigns, and arriving at sunset as the lighthouse shines is truly magical. One of our favourite locations for photos.

Belvedere of Viale Buon Cammino

Looking for peace and fresh air? The third of the 4 locations in Cagliari you may not know for your pre-wedding photos is the Belvedere del Buon Cammino, and it's just the place for you. It overlooks the public gardens, which give off plenty of oxygen; in the distance you can see the salt pans, and you can take in the eastern side of the city. Many couples come here to admire the view. You can find the location on the map via this link.

Il Poetto

The last of the 4 locations in Cagliari you may not know for your pre-wedding photos lies just behind the Molentargius lagoon: it's the beach of the people of Cagliari. It has many beach clubs, and in the past it was reached by a tram running from the centre of Cagliari. In the 1910s, Casotti (removable wooden beach huts) began to appear for seaside use, later becoming a real phenomenon and creating a high population density. Many of them were reserved for frail children who needed the sea air. In 1943 the Nazis ordered them to be dismantled for fear of a possible Allied landing, a concern with historical roots: the Torre di Mezza Spiaggia tower bears witness to this, as it was built at the time of the Saracen raids. A location rich in history, with a sea that never disappoints.
