Valentine’s Day: 4 art cities for a romantic weekend

Wondering how to spend Valentine's Day? This year we at My Happy Wedding are suggesting some destinations you simply can't say no to. The lovers' holiday falls on a Monday and, we know, between commitments and work it isn't easy to get organised, but going away for the weekend and waiting for midnight together is certainly not a bad idea. You could even take the opportunity to propose, why not?

Valentine's Day: stay in Italy or go abroad?

As always, it's the dilemma everyone has faced: Italy or abroad? Well, in times of Covid, if love is your strong suit, it's unfortunately best, at least for now, to travel within Italy, given how hard it is to plan trips abroad. That said, there's no need to lose heart, because Italy is full of wonderful places. So be patient and start by looking for accommodation, perhaps based on your partner's tastes. Booking well in advance may help you feel more relaxed. The second step is finding romantic restaurants, wellness activities such as spas, museums, Ferris wheels and anything else your partner might enjoy. Please, be meticulous but not too much: being obsessive isn't ideal. So stay open to the unexpected, as everything can be solved with a kiss and a change of plan; overly planned situations can become suffocating. Do everything naturally and it will all go well.

4 art cities to visit for Valentine’s Day: the list

Our beautiful Italy is full of unmissable destinations that everyone should see at least once in a lifetime:

Naples: There is so much to see in Naples, and much of it unexpected: your plans may change at every turn, at the sight of a palazzo, a church, a courtyard or a narrow alley. “Naples is a city teeming with life and history; it had a magnificent past and has the energy not only to take part in a future, but to get there first”. That is how the well-known contemporary writer Erri De Luca described the capital of Campania.

Florence: Florence is without doubt one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, one of those places to see at least once in a lifetime! Its streets are steeped in history and its museums are among the finest in the world. Ancient palazzi, sculptures, art everywhere: strolling through the streets of Florence is a truly extraordinary experience, and the historic centre is perfect for exploring entirely on foot, so you can soak up the atmosphere even more!

Rome: It is hard to describe Rome in a few words, just as it is hard to believe that this wonderful city grew from a small settlement of shepherds on the Palatine Hill and from a she-wolf who nursed two infants as if they were her own cubs. Perhaps it is this very mystery that millions of tourists come looking for, every single day of the year, on their trips to Rome.

Bari: Blessed with a Mediterranean climate, Bari is the capital of Apulia, a vibrant region well worth discovering over a weekend of good food, sun-drenched beaches, long walks and glamorous evenings.
