Self-Esteem and Beauty: our portrait project

A portrait session with no filters and no heavy retouching, to see yourself through new eyes: this is My Happy Wedding's Self-Esteem and Beauty project. The idea is simple: a woman's beauty doesn't lie in the absence of wrinkles, but in the character, the story and the energy she carries with her, at any age.

The mirror and self-esteem

At any age we find ourselves in front of the mirror, searching for the imperfections that time has in store for us all, forgetting that the marks of maturity bring character and energy. We often unload our insecurities onto our reflection, as if our outward appearance were the problem.

Anti-ageing creams and aesthetic medicine thus become a refuge for feeling better. Yet so often we shine with our own light, not with light reflected from a mirror. A portrait taken unhurriedly, with the right light and the gaze of someone who doesn't judge, can show us exactly that.

The project: portraits of women aged 25 and over

In 2020 we launched an open call: we were looking for women aged 25 and over, with an interesting face and a willingness to step out of their comfort zone in front of the camera, for a portrait session. In return, every participant received three photographic prints of her portraits.

The women who answered differed in age, profession and personality. No models: real people, many of whom didn't enjoy being photographed, and who by the end of the session recognized themselves in a new image. The open call is now closed, but the project goes on.

What happens during a portrait session?

We start with a chat, with no rush: it's a way to get to know each other and ease any tension. Then we shoot, in the studio or in natural light, guiding the pose with small suggestions, never with forced poses.

There's no need for elaborate make-up or special outfits: better to wear something you feel comfortable in. Light, time and trust do the rest. It's the same care we bring to our portraits of couples, and it comes from Raffaele Inglese's experience in fashion.

Give a portrait session as a gift

A portrait session is also a special gift for a mother, a sister, a friend or your partner: time for herself and an image to treasure. With our photo shoot gift voucher you can give portraits, family photos, a christening shoot or a newborn session. You can also read why it's worth having family photos taken by a photographer.
